Message from the CEO and Founder - Prof Ashish Gupta

As an Orthopaedic surgeon, I've personally grappled with the inefficiencies of medical software, a challenge that not only affects clinicians like myself but also hampers patient engagement, experience, and outcomes. Recognizing this pivotal gap, my wife, Dr. Gina Hsu, and I embarked on a journey 6 years ago to craft a holistic software solution. Today, I'm elated to witness the remarkable strides achieved by the Akunah team in the realm of medical software. Our unwavering commitment lies in fostering inclusive, evidence-based healthcare solutions that cater to all stakeholders in the industry.

Derived from the aboriginal concept of a common meeting area, "Akunah" encapsulates our dedication to patient-centric care. Our objective is to seamlessly facilitate the exchange of health information, empower patients, and unleash the potential of data analytics.

Come, be a part of the transformative Power of One!

Warm regards,

Ashish Gupta, CEO

2023 Global release of our Akunah Platform!

Since our launch, the Akunah cloud-based platform has gained traction among Orthopaedic surgeons and hospitals worldwide. This transformative tool not only enhances patient education and engagement, but also compiles well-organized, clinical and patient data for insightful trend analysis and future AI application. By bolstering the understanding of clinicians, hospitals, and patients, it elevates treatment decisions and outcomes.

Data Collection and AI

As an AI-driven company, Akunah recognizes the paramount importance of structuring, categorizing, and labelling data. The healthcare sector is rapidly embracing this paradigm, harnessing data for various purposes, notably yielding cost efficiencies, elevating patient outcomes, and curbing readmission rates. This encompasses enhancing patient engagement and minimizing adverse events. McKinsey, a prominent US economic firm, has projected that big data analytics could potentially yield annual savings of over $300 billion in healthcare costs.1

At Akunah, we fully grasp the substantial advantages that AI integration can offer, benefiting individual surgeons managing their practices as well as large healthcare institutions. Our software is inherently scalable, accommodating diverse applications, while ensuring meticulous data management to encourage analytics for your unique needs and organization.

Privacy and Clinical Workflow Integration

In an era of burgeoning data analytics and AI, we prioritize patient data privacy. Our system simply follows HIPPA and GDPR guidelines, incurring the consenting of health information sharing. Developed by an Orthopaedic surgeon, our system seamlessly integrates into clinical workflows. What sets us apart is our AI-driven data tagging, enabling trend identification while upholding privacy standards.

Akunah's Reach Expands

Excitingly, our patient platform and medical education tool, Akunah Med, are now accessible in multiple languages: German, French, Italian, Thai, Spanish, and Arabic. Korean and Chinese versions are also in the pipeline.

Reflect – FDA and TGA approval

We're proud to announce FDA and TGA approvals for Reflect, our pre-planning software program. Currently undergoing pre-market testing, Reflect holds the promise of revolutionizing shoulder case planning through its implant agnostic capabilities. Our aim is to provide shoulder surgeons worldwide with a tool that enhances surgical confidence and patient outcomes.

Advanced Features for Complex Cases

Within Akunah's offerings lies a sophisticated case planning service. This service, available now and in our upcoming program, employs AI to create high-quality 3D models from complex revision CT scans with metal artifacts. This innovation has assisted surgeons with streamlining two-stage revision arthroplasties into a single-stage process. Additionally, our AI team has developed a pre-morbid scapular generator, aiding in cases with substantial glenoid bone loss.

Pioneering Research

Akunah is committed to evidence-based healthcare solutions. Our research and development team continually pushes boundaries to improve insights and practical applications. One notable study, authored by 7 Akunah representatives, demonstrates the benefits of single stage arthroplasties and how planning software with MR execution enhances implant placement accuracy and patient outcomes in revision surgeries. This approach not only betters patient journeys but also offers cost-effective solutions for healthcare systems.

Conferences 2023

We've been actively participating in conferences worldwide this year, sharing our advancements and insights. ISAKOS, Annecy Live, Health Hub Vienna were some of the exciting and informative meetings our team were privileged to attend and present at.

The upcoming ICSES conference holds exciting prospects as the Akunah platform has assisted with the collation of data for e-posters, oral posters, and podium discussions presented by members of the Queensland shoulder research group QUASR.
